The University of Nordland, Faculty of Professional Studies has vacancies for a permanent and a temporary Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer in visual arts / art didactics from 1 August 2013. The temporary position is for a period of one year, with possibility of extension for a further year. If none of the applicants are qualified for appointment as Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer, an applicant can be hired in the position of Lecturer.

About The Faculty of Professional Studies (PHS)
The Faculty of Professional Studies is one of four faculties at the University of Nordland. PHS offers Master’s degrees in Practical Knowledge, Special Education, Clinical Nursing, Sports and Speech Therapy. At the Faculty of Professional Studies, one can also study to become a nurse, teacher, preschool teacher, lecturer or get a Bachelor’s degree in Sports or Languages. The faculty also offers doctoral (PhD) studies in the Study of Professional Practice.
The position involves teaching, supervision and research and development in the Section of Education, Art and Culture. The successful applicant will primarily teach courses in visual arts and art didactics in the elementary teacher and kindergarten teacher program. The successful applicant must be prepared to teach in all fields in the visual arts, with an emphasis on one or more specialties. One of these should preferably be in either soft or hard materials.
For appointment as Associate Professor a Norwegian doctorate or the equivalent of a Norwegian doctoral degree in visual arts or relevant field is required. The Associate Professor position aims at strengthening research, teaching and guidance in the visual arts at PHS. It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to the further development of various subjects and courses, educational approaches, disciplines and research groups, in addition to his or her own research. Experience in developing applications for external funding, and the conduct of research projects is an advantage.
For appointment as Senior Lecturer, approved and documented extensive research and development of equal quality and scope to the workload and level of a doctoral dissertation in the visual arts or relevant field is required. For appointment as a Lecturer, postgraduate examinations at a university, college or equivalent in visual arts or relevant field is required.
Applicants will be assessed in relation to documented academic qualifications and submissions. Any visual material must be submitted in PDF format.
Applications must be either in a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish) or English.
In addition to academic and professional qualifications, an emphasis will be placed on relevant work experience, educational skills and experience of teaching at the college and university level and in primary schools, as well as research and development in this field. Documented practical pedagogical competency will be emphasized.
Applicants must be fluent in a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish), as well as both spoken and written English.
Applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. Selected applicants will be invited for interviews and trial lectures.
The successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to cooperate in the Visual Arts Department and across disciplines with the aim of offering quality higher education. Therefore we place great emphasis on the ability for flexibility and cooperation. We further emphasize the organizational and administrative skills and experience and commitment to creating a good academic environment of the institution.
Wages and working conditions
The position is remunerated by the Government regulations, LPL. 17 510. Associate Professor (code 1011) and Senior Lecturer (code 1198) paid in LR 24, ltr. 58-66. Lecturer (code 1009) paid in LR 25, ltr. 48-60. In special cases, a higher salary can be offered. Please look to www.uin.no for more information.
As an employee of the University of Nordland, employees have membership in the state pension fund and other welfare benefits. Payment to the state pension fund is compulsory.
