The Department of African and African Diaspora Studies in coordination with the Center for Women's and Gender Studies invite applicants for an early tenured position as Associate Professor or a tenure track position as Assistant Professor to start Fall 2013 whose scholarship focuses on gender and sexuality in Southern Africa and draws on critical theories in the intersectionality of race, gender, class, and sexuality. We are seeking outstanding scholars with a strong background in a broad array of possible disciplines, including any of the Social Sciences, Humanities, Environmental Studies, Law, Science and Medicine and/or Gender and African Studies. Successful candidates must be committed to developing innovative undergraduate and graduate courses and programs across multiple research units and will be expected to teach foundational courses in gender and sexuality. The selected candidate should have a Ph.D. in hand by start of employment, be able to demonstrate a successful publishing and research trajectory, and have a solid record as an effective classroom teacher or a teaching philosophy helping to ensure success in the classroom. The successful candidate is expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, develop a strong research program, demonstrate evidence of successful research productivity, direct graduate research and exhibit a commitment to service to the department and center, college, and university. Salary and rank are competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience. Position funding is pending budgetary approval.
