The Department of History at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for an assistant professor (tenure-eligible) position in the history of the American Civil War. A commitment to public history is desirable. The successful candidate will be required to have a Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment. He/she will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, as appropriate, and potential for scholarship to complement and expand existing expertise in the department. He/she must demonstrate experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or show a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Candidates should submit a letter of application, CV, graduate transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and a writing sample to Kathleen Murphy at kmmurphy@vcu.edu or 811 South Cathedral Place, Richmond, Va. 23284.
Review of completed applications will begin immediately; final submission deadline is December 7.
The Department plans to meet with selected applicants at the 2013 AHA convention.
