The Department of Humanities and Cultural Studies at the University of South Florida invites applications for a Continuing Instructor to teach interdisciplinary classes in Science, Technology, and Society in addition to courses that focus specifically on the European Scientific Revolution. Preference will be given to candidates whose work proceeds through close readings of cultural texts and objects and forges links among diverse media forms. Such media may include traditional forms such as literature, visual art, architecture, music, and philosophical writing, as well as forms of material culture such as cabinets of curiosity, illustrated atlases and other elements of scientific culture. Teaching assignment is 4 courses (with 2-3 preps) per semester and includes interdisciplinary general-education classes (e.g., "Introduction to Science and Culture") as well as upper-level undergraduate courses and, potentially, master's-level graduate courses in the candidate's area of specialization. Starting salary negotiable up to $45,000. Renewable 9-month contract begins August, 2013. Interdisciplinary Ph.D., or Ph.D. in a relevant discipline with demonstrable interdisciplinary qualifications, required by start date.
