Assistant Professor of Middle Eastern History
The Department of History at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Middle Eastern History.
Review Date:Review of applications will begin November 1, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled.
Salary: Commensurate with rank and experience.
Date of Appointment: August 2013
Description of Responsibilities: Candidates should be able to offer a range of general and specialized courses in the history of the region from North Africa to Iran from 1700 to the present as well as teach a twentieth-century World history survey. Applicants should have demonstrated scholarly activity and a commitment to both undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or ABD in history (with completion by August 2013) and teaching experience; expertise in Middle Eastern history. The successful candidate will be able to promote students’ ability to succeed in a global community.
Preferred Qualifications: Specializations in the History of the Islamic World.

Description of Department: The Department of History is a student-centered department of teacher-scholars whose mission is to advance, integrate, apply, and transform scholarship through teaching, research, and community service. The department has an undergraduate program that involves approximately 170 majors, and a master program that enrolls about 20 students. In addition, the department plays an active role in supporting the university’s general education and many interdisciplinary programs.
