The Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies at Columbia University seeks to fill a position in modern South Asian studies (1800 to the present). The position is open to scholars working in any humanistic discipline and in any region, but demonstrated expertise using South Asian language materials is expected. The successful candidate will have broad intellectual interests, a commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education, and a willingness to contribute to new departmental initiatives. The appointment, at the rank of assistant professor, begins July 1, 2013.
Applicants should submit a c.v., cover letter, a representative sample of scholarship, and upload a sample course syllabus. They should also arrange to have recommendations sent by three referees. The search committee will begin reviewing applications on October 1, and will continue until an appointment is made.
