The History Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a tenure-line Assistant Professor in African History. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate surveys in African history as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in his or her area of specialization. Candidates whose research and teaching explores encounters between Africa and Europe and Africa in international context such as colonialism, imperialism, the global slave trade, migration, or foreign relations are particularly encouraged to apply. We are seeking applicants with demonstrated excellence in scholarship and teaching who will have completed their Ph.D. prior to August, 2013.
