The Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus, invites applications for a professorial appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track, to begin July 1, 2012. The position will be held in History (http://www.ubc.ca/okanagan/hist/welcome.html) in the Barber School (http://web.ubc.ca/okanagan/ikbarberschool/welcome.html).
UBC is consistently ranked among the world's top 40 universities, and the UBC system comprises two distinct campuses in the province of British Columbia–one in Vancouver and the other in Kelowna.
We seek applicants with teaching experience and strong research interests in urban history/history of the city; geographic focus and time period is open. Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or expect to have successfully defended prior to 1 July 2012). An excellent record of scholarly accomplishment, outstanding potential for future growth, and evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, to the development of interdisciplinary graduate programs, and to research are expected. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active programme of research, teaching, graduate supervision, and service.

The Okanagan is connected by direct flights to major Canadian and USA cities and the region is considered one of the desirable regions in Canada.
