Assistant Professor of History (Digital History)
The Department of History at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in the field of Digital History to begin August 15, 2012. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach courses in historical writing as well as in the candidate's area of specialty. The teaching load is 7 courses over an academic year, and will typically include four sections of the sophomore-level Historical Research and Writing course (required for majors), two upper-level courses in the candidate's area of specialty, and one survey course of the candidate's choice (American, European, or World); this includes limited opportunities for periodically teaching evening, weekend, study-abroad, summer and distance-learning courses. The salary range is within CUPA Averages.
An earned Ph.D. in History is required; all chronological, geographic, and thematic specializations will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates whose research draw upon new media technologies and advances in the digital realm. The Department seeks a candidate who will integrate new media technology and digitized historical resources into the classroom and will improve the digital literacy of its majors.
