Job Description:
The Department of History at the American University in Cairo invites applications for a tenure-track position in African history at the Assistant Professor level to begin in September 2012. The successful candidate must have PhD in hand by the start of the appointment. All periods and specializations are welcome; no geographical restrictions, but a strong research program and an ability to teach introductory as well as upper division undergraduate courses are an asset. The department is eager to review applications of individuals with demonstrated excellence in teaching, and an interest in living and working in the Middle East. PhD is required by date of appointment. A potential for excellence in research is expected. In addition to teaching and research, the successful candidate will also participate in departmental and university-wide service.
Requirements:
Priority will be given to applications received by November 15, 2011. Position is open until filled. Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the American Historical Association Annual Meeting in Chicago, 5-8 January 2012.
