Michigan State University’s Department of History seeks a historian whose research expertise is rooted in African American history before 1865 with a focus on slavery in North America and/or the United States. Preference will be given to social, cultural, and/or gender historians who can contribute to the strengthening of areas of graduate student training, including Comparative Black history and Atlantic World history.
The teaching load is two courses per semester and includes teaching at all levels from general undergraduate education to advanced graduate training. Evidence of scholarship and a strong commitment to teaching is expected. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue external funding. Ph.D. required before the appointment is made. Salary, benefits, and support for research are competitive. Full-time academic year appointment will begin on August 16, 2012.
