US/transnational sport history. The Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh seeks applicants for a tenured appointment at the associate or full professor level, beginning fall 2012, pending budgetary approval. We invite applications from candidates working on the history of sport in the United States, with a preference for those working on connections between sport in the United States and in other areas of the world. Applicants should have a distinguished record of scholarship and teaching and be ready to participate in our dynamic program of graduate teaching and research, which is built around cross-regional thematic collaboration. The successful candidate will also teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses, normally including one writing seminar annually. We encourage applicants to demonstrate how their research and teaching will contribute to one or more of our thematic fields: Atlantic History; Empires in World History; Gender, Ethnicity, Race, Religion; and Texts and Contexts (see our website, http://www.history.pitt.edu/graduate). The appointee will join a department committed to excellence in teaching as well as research in a university with great strength in international and area studies.
