The Department of History at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professorship in the history of War and Society since 1750. Preference will be given to candidates whose work is comparative and crosses geographical or cultural borders and who complement existing strengths in the department. Candidates possessing the knowledge, skills, interest, and experience to direct MA theses in American Military History also preferred. The successful candidate will teach advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in War and Society and military history, as well as survey courses in World Civilization or U.S. history. In addition, an active research agenda and participation in departmental programs is expected. Ph.D. required by time of appointment. To be eligible for hire at the associate professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the department. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department established standards. Appointment date is September 1, 2011.
