The Department of History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in the field of European history (since 1945) to begin August 2011. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment, show evidence of a strong potential for professional development as a scholar and teacher, and demonstrate a commitment to promote diversity as a value in the department and college.
All fields will be considered. The department particularly welcomes applications from candidates with research and/or teaching interests in one or more of the following areas: gender history; peace and conflict; transnational and/or comparative history; Public History; history of science, medicine and/or technology. We are also interested in colleagues who can help our department’s connections with a variety of interdisciplinary programs, including but not limited to American Studies, Women and Gender Studies, Africana Studies, International Studies, Latin American Studies; Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Studies; and, if approved, the planned Ph.D. program in Global Studies.
Within a 2/2 load, teaching responsibilities include introductory surveys in European history, as well as upper-level courses in the candidate’s fields of expertise.
UNC Charlotte is a doctoral-extensive urban university committed to excellence in research and teaching. This hire is one of five new positions in four different departments, as part of an initiative to enhance global and international studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
