East Stroudsburg University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning August 2011. The History Department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree, a History major which leads to Secondary Education Social Studies Certification, and a Master of Arts degree in History. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach four courses or the equivalent per semester at the undergraduate and sometimes graduate levels. Course load will include surveys in world history, writing methods seminars, and upper-level and graduate courses in British History. Additional duties include supervision of M.A. theses, mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students, engagement in scholarly activities, and providing service to the History Department, University, and community.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Modern British History, defined as 1600 to present, is required. Candidates currently enrolled in a history doctoral program are encouraged to apply, but they should make clear their progress toward completion. College teaching experience required. The candidates should also demonstrate potential for scholarly activities and meeting student needs.
Preferred Qualifications: A second field in Middle East or African History is preferred. In addition, college teaching experience in world history surveys and/or British History courses is desired. Final determination will be based upon successful interview, which will include a teaching demonstration.
