The History Department at Valdosta State University invites applications for a new ten-month, tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor for the 2010-11 academic year. Appointment date is August 1, 2010. The primary area of specialization is African American History. Period of specialization and secondary fields are open. The successful candidate should be able to teach U.S. History survey courses, a two-course upper-level sequence in African American History, and additional upper-level courses in area of specialty. The department has an M.A. program, so the successful candidate should be able to teach graduate variants of upper-level courses and an occasional graduate seminar. The teaching load is twelve credit hours per semester. Some courses will be cross-listed with African American Studies in support of the AFAM minor. Qualifications include a Ph.D. at time of appointment, teaching experience, and evidence for potential in service and scholarship.
