The Department of History at the University of Cincinnati announces a tenure-track, assistant professor position in the history of South Asia. Though open to all periods, we are especially interested in candidates whose work focuses on topics falling between the 16th century and the present with research and teaching interests in one or more of the following: gender, religion, politics, and colonialism and its continuing legacies, including Hindu as well as Islamic South Asia. The University of Cincinnati is a large urban, public university with an enrollment of 39,000 students. The History Department is home to 22 full-time faculty and offers BA, MA and PhD degrees. The teaching load is 2-2-2 in the quarter system, moving to 2-2 with the coming transition to semesters. PhD in hand by September 2010 is required. The candidate should expect to participate in teaching Asian and world history surveys as well as undergraduate and graduate courses in his/her specialty. Commitment to active profile of publication and research is required, as well as readiness to contribute appropriate department service.
