Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (holding the title of Coordinator in American Studies) in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (American Studies) (Ref.: RF-2009/2010-211) Applications are invited for appointment as Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (holding the title of Coordinator in American Studies) in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (American Studies), from as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis. An appointee with demonstrated performance will be considered for tenure during the second three-year contract. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and should be specialists in one or more of the following fields: history, political science, literature, film, philosophy, sociology, anthropology, or international relations, and should show a strong interdisciplinary orientation and excellence in teaching and research. Interest in Latin America and/or Asian American Studies could be an advantage. The appointee is expected to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, conduct research about American Studies, coordinate the American Studies Programme, be active in the administration of the School and liaise with other areas of study in the School to strengthen our interdisciplinary character. Annual salaries will be in the following ranges (subject to review from time to time at the entire discretion of the University): Associate Professor : HK$661,980 - 1,023,720 Assistant Professor : HK$504,480 - 779,640 (approximately US$1 = HK$7.8) The level of appointment and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and medical/dental benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
