Job Description: The Anthropology Program, Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology and Egyptology (SAPE), at the American University in Cairo invites applications for an open rank tenure track position in Socio-Cultural Anthropology to begin fall 2010. The Department is seeking candidates who will enrich the regional focus of the program and whose research and teaching is geographically grounded in MENA and/or South Asia. Thematically, the Department is looking for a medical anthropologist whose interests might include, among others, a focus on the political economy of health and healing, violence and health, governance and health, and/or science, technology and health. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate an ability to talk across geographic and disciplinary boundaries. Requirements: PhD is required at time of appointment. Teaching experience is preferred. Successful candidates should have an ongoing program of research and publication and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. Responsibilities include undergraduate as well as graduate teaching in a joint Sociology-Anthropology MA program, an active program of research and publications, and service to the Department and the University. Informational interviews will be held at the AAA Meeting; however, all candidates will be given full consideration. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by video-conference in January 2010.
