The Department of History at Sam Houston State University invites candidates for the position of chairperson beginning on or before August 2010. The successful candidate will chair a vibrant department with 22 tenured and tenure-track professors, an accredited online and residential MA program of 100 graduate students, and undergraduate courses enrolling over 7,000 students annually. Responsibilities include faculty evaluation, budget management, daily administration, class scheduling, teaching, and service. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in History (field open), administrative experience, strong record of publication and teaching, leadership in an environment of shared governance, success with extramural funding, and credentials commensurate with the rank of associate or full professor. Salary is competitive.
