The School of Library, Archival and Information Studies at the University of British Columbia seeks a Director as of July 1, 2010. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of full Professor. SLAIS, located at one of the top research universities in North America, is ALA-accredited and offers PhD and Masters degrees in library and information studies, archival studies, and children’s literature. SLAIS is home to a number of unique research and curriculum initiatives and has successfully attracted significant funding for multidisciplinary and international research projects. The successful candidate should have a doctorate in a relevant field, demonstrated administrative ability and experience, a strong record of scholarship, teaching and service, excellent communication skills, vision and creativity as a leader, proficiency in fostering collegiality, and the capacity to create productive partnerships across disciplinary and organizational boundaries. The Director is responsible for the academic and administrative leadership of the School. This includes administration of budgets, personnel and curriculum; the promotion of high quality research; representing the School with respect to academic, professional and broader community groups and fostering relationships with them. Participation in teaching and scholarship is commensurate with overall administrative responsibilities.
