Modern Middle East History: The history department of the University of Illinois Springfield invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of modern Middle Eastern history beginning in August 2010. Area of specialization is open, although candidates must be able to teach the political, economic, and social history of the modern Middle East (since 1800) in comparative and thematic frameworks. Successful candidates will teach three courses each term. Responsibilities include teaching lower-division courses in the university’s general education curriculum, upper-division and graduate seminars in areas of specialty, and departmental core courses in historical methods. Candidates should be willing to teach online as well as on-campus. A PhD in History or Middle Eastern Studies with a historical emphasis is required at the time of appointment, as well as evidence of scholarly potential. The University of Illinois Springfield is a public liberal arts university located in the state capital and is one of three campuses of the University of Illinois.
