Ancient Mediterranean World History. The Department of History at West Virginia University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in the history of the Ancient Mediterranean World, beginning August 16, 2010. Geographic, chronological, and thematic focus open. WVU is a research institution and the normal teaching load is two courses per semester for research-productive faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to teach survey courses in world history and ancient history, as well as upper-level and graduate courses in their areas of specialization. We are particularly interested in candidates able to teach early Islam and/or to train graduate students in global and comparative history. PhD in hand is expected by the time of the appointment, with preference given to candidates with successful teaching experience and/or other evidence of effective teaching skills, a record of scholarly publications, and a demonstrated potential to secure external funding in support of their research.
