Lecturer Position in Kiswahili Language and African Cultures The African Studies program at New College, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, University of Toronto, invites applications for a full-time teaching-stream position in Kiswahili language and African cultures. The appointment will be at the rank of a lecturer and will begin on July 1, 2010. The successful candidate will have native or near native fluency in Kiswahili language and will teach courses in introductory and intermediate Kiswahili as well as upper-year level courses in African cultures, histories, and societies. We would welcome applications from any discipline but we especially encourage those with expertise in Kiswahili language, education, cultural studies, linguistics, religious studies, popular culture, postcolonial studies, or history to apply. Applicants must have earned a doctorate or be near completion in a related field by July 1, 2010, together with evidence of excellence in teaching at the University level. The appointment is initially for three years. Appointments at the rank of a lecturer may be renewed annually to a maximum of five years. In the fifth year of service, lecturers shall be reviewed and a recommendation made with respect to promotion to the rank of a senior lecturer. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applications will be accepted until November 30, 2009.
