Assistant Professor of Modern South Asian History The Department of History at the UW-Madison invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2010 at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Modern South Asian History, in any research specialization addressing the nineteenth and/or twentieth centuries. Applicants should hold a doctorate or anticipate its completion by the time of the appointment. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of creativity and excellence in research. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate surveys, specialized upper-division courses and graduate seminars in the history of modern South Asia. We are particularly interested in candidates who will actively develop our South Asian history program, while adding to the university’s longstanding prominence in the study of this area. Wisconsin-Madison houses the Title VI-supported Center for South Asia, as well as the Department of Languages and Cultures of Asia, in addition to excellent library resources for research in the area. If the writing sample forms part of a larger book manuscript or dissertation, please include an abstract and table of contents or a statement of how the writing sample fits in with the larger project. For full consideration, applications must be received by November 18, 2009. Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the American Historical Association Annual Meeting in San Diego.
