Assistant Professor of Chinese History The Department of History at the UW-Madison invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2010 at the rank of Assistant Professor in Chinese History, any period. All research specializations are welcome to apply. Applicants should hold a doctorate or anticipate its completion by the time of the appointment. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of creativity and excellence in research. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in modern or pre-modern Chinese history along with survey courses in East Asian history. We are particularly interested in candidates who will actively develop our East Asian history program and contribute to departmental and campus strengths in interdisciplinary and thematic research. Send letter of application, curriculum vitae, and paper copy of a writing sample of approximately 50 pages, and three letters of recommendation to Ms. Nicole Hauge, Chinese History Search Committee, Department of History, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 3211 Mosse Humanities Building, 455 North Park Street, Madison, WI 53706-1405. If the writing sample is a section of a larger book manuscript or dissertation, please include an abstract and table of contents or a statement of how the writing sample fits in with the larger project. For full consideration, applications must be received by November 18, 2009. Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the American Historical Association Annual Meeting in San Diego.
