Pre-Colonial West or Central Africa. The History Department of the College of Charleston invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in pre-colonial west or central African history to begin in August, 2010. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or expect to complete the Ph.D. in African history by August, 2010. Preference will be given to applicants whose research and teaching focus on the pre-colonial period in west or central Africa. Successful candidates will be able to contribute to the African Studies Program as well as the Program in Carolina Lowcountry and the Atlantic World. Candidates must have a firm commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts and sciences environment. The ability to teach upper-level courses in pre-colonial Africa and courses in the general education curriculum in pre-modern and/or modern history surveys is essential.
