The Department of Film Studies, The University of Western Ontario (http://www.uwo.ca/film/) invites applications for one position, to begin 01 July 2010, at the rank of Assistant or Associate (with tenure) Professor, with a specialization in World Cinema. Candidates with an expertise in the cinema(s) of South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and/or Latin America are especially encouraged to apply. For Assistant level applicants, this is a probationary (tenure-track) appointment. The completed Ph.D or equivalent, and experience and promise in teaching and research are minimum qualifications. Published work in Film Studies is essential for all applicants. The candidate would be expected to complement the Department’s existing strengths in national cinemas, film theory, film history, and gender and sexuality studies with strength in a national cinema. The candidate would contribute to an undergraduate curriculum focused on national, transnational, and regional cinemas. He or she would also have an opportunity to contribute to the Department’s MA program, ‘Critical Studies in Global Film Cultures’, launched in 2008-09. Candidates who have cross-disciplinary interests in other sites of visual culture and digital media are encouraged to apply. Positions are subject to budget approval. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents will be given priority.
