Middle East. The Department of History at the State University of New York at New Paltz seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor working in the history of the Middle East before 1918 to begin at the start of the Fall term of 2010. The successful applicant should be prepared to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in his or her areas of expertise, along with one section of a survey of the history of the Middle East to or from 1798, as part of the campus General Education curriculum (typically 3 courses per semester). Graduate students are primarily secondary education/social studies candidates in an M.S. or M.A.T. program. The successful application will also be expected to establish a strong program of scholarship, to advise students, and to contribute to the life and work of the department and the college. We value the diversity of our students, faculty, and staff and are especially interested in considering applicants with a strong commitment to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere. Ph.D. required, but ABD applications will be considered; teaching experience highly desired. Applications must be postmarked on or before 1 November 2009 to receive consideration.
