The Department of History at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in the History of French Canada at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective 1 July 2010. Candidates’ research should focus on any one or a combination of the following periods in Francophone Canadian history: Ancien Regime, Pre-Confederation, or Post-Confederation/Modern. We encourage applications from candidates across the broadest possible spectrum of research interests and contexts. Our ideal applicant will have: a PhD in Canadian history or a nearly completed dissertation and scheduled defense; suitable university teaching experience; an established or emerging record of scholarly accomplishment; great promise in research and teaching; and the capacity to integrate her/his empirically-grounded interests and methods of historical interpretation within the research and teaching of our intellectual community.
