The Department of History of the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia) is pleased to announce the opening of a full-time position for a professor in human geography to begin on January 1, 2010. Responsibilities The new professor will teach between 4 and 5 classes in Spanish a year in both the master’s program in geography and the undergraduate program in history (which includes classes in geography), develop research projects on topics of his or her interest, and participate in the institutional development of the History Department and the University. Requirements 1. Ph.D. (or have a completed dissertation by December, 2009) in geography or related discipline, with an emphasis in the social sciences. Research experience on urban topics and an historical perspective are preferred. 2. Curriculum vitae. 3. Writing sample (academic publication or dissertation chapter). 4. One academic letter of recommendation. 5. Sample syllabi for an undergraduate class (Geography of Colombia, Geographic Thought, or Introduction to Geography) and a master’s level seminar. 6. Availability to give a talk at the University. Position The new professor will join the faculty of the university as an assistant, associate, or full professor according to their professional experience, which will also serve to determine their salary. On September 14, applicants will be notified by email whether or not they have been selected to continue in the application process.
