Endowed Chair in British History. The Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for the Amundson Professorship of British History, to begin in the Fall Term 2010-2011, subject to budgetary approval. This appointment will be at the associate or full professor level. Applicants should have outstanding research records and be acknowledged leaders in British history, broadly construed to include sub-fields such as the history of the British Empire and Commonwealth. We favor candidates with a record of creative scholarly collaboration as well as outstanding individual productivity. The appointee will join a department with significant strengths in Western, non-Western, and world history and a commitment to a transnational, thematic emphasis in graduate training. We ask that applicants demonstrate how their research and teaching interests in British history will contribute to one or more of our transnational concentrations: Atlantic history; Empires in World History; Gender, Ethnicity, Race, and Religion; and Texts and Contexts. In addition to scholarly accomplishments, the Department expects and highly values excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Finally, the applicants should be committed to taking a leadership role in advancing the research profile and national and international reputation of the History Department.
