The Clarkson University Department of Humanities and Social Sciences invites applications for a two-year appointment as a Visiting Assistant Professor beginning fall 2009. We seek a colleague with a PhD in geography, anthropology/archeology or sociology whose work is focused on issues of technology, environment and/or resource conflict in an historical context. The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is a multi-disciplinary department of eighteen faculty members with disciplinary degree programs in History, Political Science as well as four Interdisciplinary degree programs including American Studies. The department has multi-disciplinary strengths in environment, war studies, and science and medicine. The ordinary teaching load for the Department is four courses per semester. The position involves teaching a required course, the Clarkson Seminar, a writing intensive course for first year students. The faculty member joining the department will teach four 20 student sections (one preparation, 80 students) of the Clarkson Seminar in the fall semester. The spring teaching load will comprise two preparations of classes that complement the department's offerings.
