The National Council for History Education (NCHE) announces a search for a new Executive Director. Headquartered in College Park, Maryland, NCHE is a national, non-profit association with over 6,000 members, including K-12 teachers, historians, learning specialists and interested citizens, dedicated to the advancement of history in schools and society. The Executive Director will need to possess a diverse set of skills in leadership, management, communication and educational policy. Responsibilities include working with the Board of Trustees to develop and advance the organization’s mission; managing a staff of eight employees and an annual budget approaching $2 million; serving a diverse membership through the oversight of print and web based publications and recruiting new members; facilitating an annual national conference; and coordinating the organization’s professional development partnerships. Applicants should have experience in association leadership and an understanding of the needs of a varied membership. They need outstanding managerial and external relations skills, an ability to plan strategically and a profound commitment to history education. The Executive Director will need imagination and initiative and the ability to seek future grants and alliances in order to further the cause of history in the schools. Salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Appointment will commence October 1st, 2009.
