Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor - East Asian History The Department of History at Kalamazoo College invites applications for a one-year position as a visiting assistant professor or instructor in East Asian history, beginning in September 2009 through June 2010. Reappointment in this position may be possible. We seek candidates who can offer a broad range of classes in East Asian History, but the candidate must teach one section of Introduction to East Asian Civilization and two upper-level courses, Modern China and Modern Japan. Courses contribute to both the History and East Asian Studies programs at the College. The teaching load is six courses per year on a quarter system (2/2/2), with some additional duties with senior theses, comprehensive exams, and selected advising. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Ph.D. preferred; those near completion of their doctoral degree will be considered. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a high aptitude for and interest in undergraduate teaching, a commitment to the liberal arts, and a promise of scholarly excellence.
