A visiting faculty member or lecturer is needed to teach History 211, "Later Middle Ages, 1100-1500," and a second course, to be determined by department needs and the successful candidate’s strengths, during the winter term 2010, January 1 - April 30, 2010. The general description for History 211 is as follows: A survey of political, economic, religious, and intellectual developments within western Christendom. Special emphasis on main currents of medieval thoughts. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the instructor will oversee the course GSI(s), if applicable; hold office hours for students; do course planning and grading; and provide an appropriate syllabus and course materials electronically. This is a non-tenure track position needed only for winter 2010. Typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three (3) courses per semester, or the equivalent in other duties. The anticipated effort for this position as a lecturer is 66.67%. For candidates who qualify to be appointed as visiting professors, terms and salary will be negotiated. Terms and conditions of employment for a lecturer position are subject to the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Michigan and the Lecturers' Employee Organization. Successful applicants hold a Ph.D. with a specialization in medieval history. Additional requirements include demonstrated successful teaching experience and enthusiasm for teaching undergraduate students.
