Dean, School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Troy, NY Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the nation’s oldest technological institute and a top-ranked private research university, seeks a Dean for the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS). The new Dean will build on the school’s impressive record of innovation and accomplishment and lift HASS to new interdisciplinary curriculum, research and programmatic heights. The Dean will report to the Provost and will lead all academic and research matters within Rensselaer’s School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences will serve as a member of the Deans’ Council and the Institute’s academic leadership team. The School’s five departments; The Arts, Cognitive Science, Economics, Language, Literature, & Communication and Science & Technology Studies offer innovative and interdisciplinary programs of study at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Students have access to field and studio work, internships and professional co-op opportunities, outstanding electronic laboratories and computer facilities, interdisciplinary opportunities and international experiences. From its five interdisciplinary programs; Design, Innovation and Society (DIS), Electronic Media, Arts and Communication (EMAC), Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences (GSAS), Minds & Machines, and Programs in Design and Innovation (PDI), the School offers several unique B.S. programs in areas such as electronic arts, communications, and product design. The School also offers seven M.S. programs, one M.F.A. program, and five Ph.D. programs. Currently there are approximately 300 undergraduate and 125 graduate students enrolled in any year. Also, there are more than 300 students pursing second majors in HASS. The School has more than 70 tenured or tenure track faculty. During the last six years, HASS has seen its sponsored research expenditures triple. The School's research portfolio focuses on information technology, community-based research, design and environmental, technology transfer, and electronic media. In the same period, HASS has increased enrollments and developed new research labs for faculty and computer facilities for students. Applications to HASS have risen 425% in the past four years.
