The Department of History at the University of Florida is seeking to hire a tenure-track assistant professor who is an historian of Francophone sub-Saharan Africa. Regional specialization and time period are open. The position will begin in August 2010 and applicants must have been awarded their PhDs by then. UF’s Department of History has forty faculty members, over 100 graduate students, and an established graduate program in African history. The UF Center for African Studies (www.africa.ufl.edu) is a federally-funded Title VI National Resource Center, which draws on some 100 affiliated faculty to create campus-wide graduate and undergraduate interdisciplinary programs related to Africa. The University of Florida is a comprehensive public research university encompassing virtually all academic and professional disciplines, and is a member of the Association of American Universities. Its beautiful 2,000-acre campus is located within the city of Gainesville, a diverse community of over 100,000 people.
